This is largely determined by three factors.

   1.  Size (weight and length) of fifth wheeler to be towed.

1. Size.

The size in both weight and length have a bearing on the tow vehicle needed.
Smaller utes like Holden Rodeo and Nissan Navara will fifth wheel tow up to approx. 3.6 tonne and up to approx. 26' (5.5 m).

Larger tow vehicles like Iveco, Ford F 250 and Dodge Ram can tow larger fifth wheelers with an ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) up to 4.5 tonne and lengths up to 33'.
These utes can fifth wheel tow more weight but there is a requirement in Australia for trailers with a ATM over 4.5 tonne to have, amongst other things, full air brakes and the tow vehicle then has to have the air brake controller installed.
 

2. Budget.

The total investment on tow vehicle and trailer can be a decider on the type of tow vehicle required.
Second hand vehicles can be used but you must do your homework as to the vehicles capacity to tow.
 

3. Comfort.

This is a personal choice and your lifestyle on the road might be an indicator to the type of tow vehicle required.

Most smaller utes are available in various levels of comfort with the top of the line having all the creature comforts.

Larger tow vehicles like Iveco can be ordered with addition comfort items including seating and style side bodied.
